Tele-optometry and smart contact lenses—future or fad?
A (Optometrist): Tele-optometry is fine for Rx renewals, but you cannot do a retinal scan remotely for glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.
B (Tech Dev): Actually, smartphone-based fundus cameras exist now. We can capture clinic-grade images and ship them to an AI for pre-screening.
C (Economist): The real growth is in myopia control in children. Parents will pay a premium for specialty lenses that slow progression.
D (Patient): I just want affordable glasses. All this smart lens tech sounds expensive and invasive. Basic vision is a right, not a luxury.
